Wax melts generally release scent for 8-12 hours depending on the fragrance and wax mix. Seven ounce candles may burn between 40 and 60 hours depending on wax, wick, fragrance, and container combinations. Times may vary.
It isnt suggestion to reuse wax melts for scented applications. The wax can "burn" when left in higher temperature warmers and add funny smells. Reheating the wax for second chance melts can also burn the fragrance oil carriers and create acrid smells. However, the wax can be recycled in crafts and hobby applications.
What you are witnessing is called "Tunneling". This can many reasons. This can occur when you don't let your candle burn long enough on the first use to create a full melt pool. It leaves a ring of wax around the outside of the jar that doesn't melt. Burning in drafty or cold areas can also cause this to occur as it can cool the jar and the wax touching it.
To maintain the quality of your candles, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. This helps preserve their scent and prevents melting or warping.
If your candle wick is too long, trim it to about 1/4 inch before lighting. This ensures a clean and even burn.
